Our Mission
Our goal is to teach others, both young and old, how music and the creation of music can enrich not only their lives, but the lives of people around them. Our mission is to offer an environment in which students of diverse backgrounds and ages have the opportunity to explore their unique musical talents and to bring the best of themselves, their creativity, and their intellectual skills to their musical studies.
Our Founder
Dr. Felton Pilate
As one of the founding members of the Gold and Platinum selling R&B group, ConFunkShun, and founder of Felstar Studios, Dr. Pilate gives back by supporting music education. He has spent portions of his 50-plus years of making music working with students and offers select internships to those with a strong interest in the music business to assist in furthering their education and knowledge of the industry.
Students get the valuable opportunity to work face to face with Pilate perfecting their musical craft, developing recording studio skills and getting helpful music business insights.

Jennifer Pilate
Chief Operating Officer
As COO and President, Jennifer has over 45 years of business and marketing experience enhancing and executing company marketing strategies and loans. With a degree in marketing, she’s helped various companies increase revenues. This professional experience can help design unique marketing strategies that align with this company's values, customer base and overall mission.
With a successful track record in business, enthusiasm and the desire to improve operations, there’s no doubt she is an asset to our team.
Skylar Green
HR Specialist
Skylar has an extensive background in HR, sales and management. He is quite an asset to our foundation.. Skylar focuses on providing a premium experience for clients. His egalitarian approach to working with people transitions well here at Felstar Music.
Mr. Green has a full time position with Ashford Advisors and focuses his energy on assisting people with their finances to build budgets, wealth strategies and protect their income and investments. He also spends quality hours assisting in organizing our client base and impleme our corporate policies.
Skylar graduated in 2005 with a degree in political science. A lifelong learner, he continues to study philosophy, the sciences and technology. In his spare time, Skylar is politically active, runs a modest TikTok account, and enjoys reading, game nights with friends, and trying new restaurants.
Lara Batey
Fundraiser
Lara's excellence at her craft made her and her business, New Wave Mortgage Lending, LLC. , a household name in Nashville, Tn.
by helping thousands of moderate to low income families to achieve home ownership.
“I used my education and lending experience to volunteer heading up Saturday morning classes at community centers in the area,” Batey notes. “I taught single mothers the importance of establishing and maintaining good credit.”

Aaron Green
Associate Consultant
Aaron has been a professional drummer since 1999. An accomplished studio session player, clinician, and international touring musician, he has worked with artists such as ConFunkShun, Marcus Miller, Sheila E., Lalah Hathaway, Ginuwine, En Vogue, Tony Lindsay, and Ronnie Laws. Currently, he's in his 11th year of teaching at Guitar Center in Emeryville, Ca.
His teaching and leadership skills definitely push Felstar Music forward!
